Commissioner Vásquez’s policy priorities include:
Protecting Cook County Health Hospitals & Clinics
Cook County Health is a lifeline for thousands of residents, providing essential care regardless of income, immigration status, or insurance coverage. It’s one of the few systems committed to public, community-centered healthcare, from trauma response to preventative services. Improving services and access to our hospitals and clinics for our residents is my top priority.
Property Tax Relief for Working Families
Our communities are feeling the pressure of rising property taxes, due in part to gentrification. I’m committed to providing immediate relief by hosting workshops to help residents file assessment appeals and apply for property tax exemptions. These tools can lead to significant savings or even refunds for homeowners. At the same time, I’m advocating for long-term solutions, like raising the income limit for the Senior Freeze program from $65,000 to $85,000, and supporting legislation to ensure commercial property owners pay their fair share. Everyone deserves a fair and affordable path to stay in their home.
Community Investment
Investing in our communities will make our corridors and neighborhoods thrive. I am committed to securing funding for small business support and violence prevention work that will help our communities grow and heal together. Our community deserves access to the many resources that the county has to offer, and I will always stand up to fight for the 8th District.
