  • What is your office doing to address property taxes?

    • Our office is working diligently to address immediate needs and concerns of residents by supporting owners in navigating the property tax system so that they are not overpaying. We help residents save money by advocating, informing, and applying for exemptions and appeals with residents.

    • We know that is not enough; ultimately, we need to change the property tax system so that working class people can own homes and property taxes are not the barrier in owning property. We are working with all City, County, and State stakeholders to make sure big corporations and the ultra rich pay their fair share in property taxes. We are exploring a property tax increase percent cap, new exemptions, and simplifying appeals. To achieve this change we need to find alternative revenue streams to ensure that our communities still have the resources they need and that property owners have sustainable , predictable, and fair property taxes

  • Where do my property taxes go?

    • Your property taxes go to many aspects of government usage, such as education, city of Chicago services, the Forest Preserves, and Chicago Parks. Taxes are used to ensure our neighborhoods have all the critical infrastructure and services needed for the community.
